Knowledge Check
According to neuroscientist Andrew Huberman, dopamine is best understood as:
A
The chemical released when you finally achieve a goal.
B
The anticipation of reward — released before you receive it, not after.
C
Best activated through frequent small wins throughout the day.
D
Unrelated to focus — purely an emotional response.

The Elimination Principle
This is why “just use your phone less” doesn’t work. The craving is in the anticipation, not the use. Every time you see the notification badge — even if you don’t open it — the spike fires. The only way out is to remove the cue entirely: notifications off, phone in another room, environment redesigned. Structure over willpower.
