Setbacks Are Brushstrokes Too
The universe works on its own timeline. Some of the strokes are wine. Some are gold. Some are mistakes that become the most interesting part of the painting.
“You have power over your mind — not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.“
How do you currently respond to setbacks?
Be specific. When something doesn’t work — when the deal falls through, the plan changes, the person doesn’t text back, the year goes sideways — what’s the first move you actually make? Not the one you wish you made. The real one.
Do you spiral? Withdraw? Numb out? Get loud? Get quiet? Name it without flinching. You can’t reframe what you haven’t seen.
How will you respond next time?
Use the five movements. Observe the setback without becoming it. Challenge the story it’s trying to tell you about your future. Redirect toward the version of you who’s already on the other side. Anchor the new response somewhere your eyes can return to. Trust the timeline — sometimes the detour is the route.
